A dumbbell-shaped implant was used in place of a standard bone dowel for this study in order to clearly demonstrate on-growth as well as in-growth, or bone bridging along the inner diameter of the implant. ZFUZE™ showed significantly enhanced bone mineralization on all implant surfaces at 12 weeks postoperatively, compared to PEEK, which showed limited bone information around the implant.
